Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots ‐ but you have to play the ball where it lies. ‐ Bobby Jones
Participating in athletics is a privilege, not a right. With this in mind, the California High School Golf Staff has established the following contract so that players and parents will understand what is expected of each of them during the summer, preseason, and season.
Fees/Paper Work
The Summer Golf athletic fee will cost $100 per player. This Fee will cover greens fees, SCGA Golf Pass, and a summer spirit pack. All fees and paperwork are due no later than May 31, 2024. Sports physicals can be turned in no later than May 31, 2024. Players cannot participate in any Golf Activities without having completed a sports physical, there are no exceptions to this rule. Sports physicals can be found on the online registration page and should be turned-in to the athletics office.
EXPECTATIONS
ACADEMICS (During School Year)
All members of the California High School golf team are expected to perform in the classroom as well as on the course. Academics are always the number one priority. Your first responsibility is your grades. At no time, will you use golf as an excuse for missing an assignment or a test. With this in mind, it is the policy of the Girls and Boys golf team that all players must be passing all classes and receiving acceptable citizenship reviews in order to play on this team. Our program goal is to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better. You understand that through dedication and hard work, you can achieve greatness in the classroom.
Player’s are responsible to meet with your teachers and explain to them that you are on the golf team and may miss their class. It is the player’s responsibility to get work before they miss class when possible. Academics are the number one priority.
Any player who is failing any class(es) is subject to the following:
If the player is receiving one (1) failing grade (F), the player will be able to practice but will NOT be permitted to play in any tournaments as long as the player is still receiving a failing grade. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE.
If the player is receiving two (2) or more failing grades, the player is not eligible to practice or play in any of the tournaments until the grades become passing. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE.
Any players who receive “unacceptable” citizenship marks will NOT be able to participate in any tournaments until the mark(s) is/are upgraded to “acceptable.” THERE ARE NOT EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE.
Each of you has assumed a role in this golf program. Your role as a golfer is to respect the game, learn from the game and let the game teach you… on the course and off. Respect to your teammates, opponents, coaches, parents and the facilities we use.
Study the game of golf, know the rules, and play fairly. Play your game with honor, respect and dignity and we will be proud. We will follow all CIF, school, and team policies always. We will dedicate the next two plus months to be the best golfer, the best teammate, and the best individual you can be.
The Player will respect the golf course, my teammates, and my opponents. Golf is a game of HONOR. This includes not throwing golf clubs or cursing during the course of play or practice. Golf is a unique sport in that you are responsible for following the rules and calling your own penalties in most instances. Refer to the USGA rules of golf app., and/or consult with a coach when a rule is in question.
NO CELL PHONES are allowed while playing on the course. Keep Cell phones out of sight. No earpods or headphones while playing the course. Ear pods, headphones, and cellphones can be used on the driving range and putting green. If the Player is caught using their phone on the course without permission, the Player will be giving a first warning. A second offense will result in disciplinary action.
Use practice time well. Be efficient and productive. Get better each day. Socialize after the Practice.
The Player will never give up and compete on every shot. Maximum effort at all times is expected.
The Player will represent California High School within class and at practice, tournaments, matches, and wherever they represent California High School. The Player is a representative of CHS, the team, thier family, and ultimately themself.
The Player will commit to work as hard as they can to become a better golfer. Golf is a lifelong sport and is inherently challenging at every skill level.
The Player will strive to be a leader in the classroom and at school, through their behavior and class work. Behavior and conduct are more important that ability.
The Player understands that California High School has a zero tolerance policy for drug abuse, including tobacco and alcohol. The Player understands that any violation of this rule may result in my immediate suspension and/or dismissal from the team.
The Player understands that the coaching staff requires full attention during any team meetings or instructions during practice. The Player also understands that the coaching staff demands and deserves my full respect, whether or not they personally agree with the coaching staff. The failure to observe these rules WILL result in a warning on the first offense and the loss of playing time on the second or subsequent offense.
The Player understands they they will not leave practices, tournments, and matches without the approval of one of the coaches. It is expected for the Player to stay to the end of all matches and to show sportsmanship to Cal High component. If the player must leave, before the end of the overall match, the Player must notify the Coaching Staff and inform the staff they are leaving and why.
You understand that golf is a game which requires a full commitment to practice. A missed practiced due to school functions or extenuating circumstances can only be excused by the coaches. Whenever possible, the player should notify the coaches before a missed practice. You are expected to be at every practice. If you are unable to make it to a practice, you will need to provide a reason to the coach why you are unable to attend. The Coaches will also need a response from your parents also explaining why you were unable to attend practice. If 3 (three) practices are missed, a meeting will be scheduled with the coach, player, and parent to discuss disciplinary actions moving forward.
Weather can change the best laid plans for practice, so be prepared, occasionally, to improvise on short notice.
We, The Coaches have been given the gift to use golf as a means to assist each of you in your quest to become better men, women, better golfers, and most importantly better Student Athletes. Each coach has a role in this journey, a role that we cherish and live for. Coaches will honor these roles to the power they have been given and seek to improve each and every one of you in all aspects of life. Coaches will abide by all rules set forth by governing bodies at all times. They will not break these rules to enhance the program at any time! Coaches will be held to the highest standards in their words and actions. Coaches will not, at any time, belittle players. We will focus on positive reinforcement, love for our players, and the drive to become the best coach possible.
The parents of our players are also members of our family. They, too, will respect our program, our school, its coaches, other parents, and its players. They will be treated as such by players and coaches. Parents will accept that role of being “parents”. Parents will understand that the players play the game, the coaches coach the game, and the administrators help orchestrate the matches. Parents are a means of support that will uphold the pride of the Cal High Golf program at all times. Parents understand that although they might not always agree with decisions being made, they will respect these decisions, as every member of our family is doing their very best.
BY SIGNING THIS AGREEMENT, THE PLAYER AND PARENTS/GUARDIANS AGREE THAT WE HAVE READ THIS ENTIRE AGREEMENT AND AGREE TO ABIDE BY ALL PROVISIONS.
